Arts:Impact is the project strand of the work of the Derbyshire Arts, Health and Wellbeing Working Group. The project is funded by the Pfizer Foundation UK, to provide professional arts activity in care settings, and training for care staff, alongside Caring Creatively – a newsletter, web resource and networking opportunities for care staff wishing to lead and develop arts activity in their care setting. The Care Centre has been selected as one of two care homes in Derbyshire to participate in the project.
Why is creative activity important?
In addition to helping meet CQC targets and improving the services of the care centre, taking part in art improves wellbeing; promotes social interaction and companionship; reduces social isolation; improves verbal and non-verbal communication and empathy; reduces stress, anxiety and depression; provides mental, sensory and emotional interest and stimulation; improves mental and physical energy; and provides coping mechanisms and distraction from pain and troubles… for staff and carers, as well as for residents.
